The co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Uzbek Commission on Economic Cooperation, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev, held a meeting on priority issues for bilateral relations. The main emphasis was placed on growth in mutual trade turnover.
"According to preliminary estimates, mutual trade turnover increased by 5.2% last year, exceeding 10 billion US dollars. At the same time, there has been an increase in both Russian exports and imports from Uzbekistan," Denis Manturov said.In turn, Jamshid Khojaev voiced an even more positive estimate, noting that Uzbekistan "assesses the dynamics of bilateral trade even more optimistically, recording growth to 11.7 billion dollars." Manturov also stressed the significant potential of interregional cooperation for expanding trade, as well as deepening economic and investment ties.
In 2023, 39 Russian region heads visited Uzbekistan, which attests to a strengthening of relations, while an increase in tourism has also been observed – Russian tourists have made 515,000 trips to Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan has more Russian university branches than any other Central Asian country – 14, and there are plans to open another branch of the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade.
