The discussions, held in Tashkent, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing joint projects across economic, scientific, and social sectors.
Nikitin highlighted the unique historical connection between the Novgorod region and Uzbekistan, which dates back to the 1970s. Today, their cooperation is flourishing in areas such as economic development and education. Notably, Uzbekistan has shown interest in establishing a branch of the Novgorod Construction College within its borders.
The Governor noted a surge in foreign student enrollment, with Novgorod State University seeing its total student population double over the past five years and its foreign student count increase fivefold. Currently, 115 students from Uzbekistan are studying in the Novgorod region.
Foreign trade between Novgorod and Uzbek regions has also seen marked growth, particularly following the Novgorod region’s participation in the Trade Fair 'INNOPROM: Central Asia.' One of the outcomes of the Trade Fair was a collaboration to establish a Russian producer of technical rehabilitation equipment in Uzbekistan.
During the visit, an agreement was signed between the Novgorod regional government and the Khokimiyat of Khorezm region, aiming to enhance cooperation in trade, economics, science, technology, and socio-cultural activities.
Plans are also underway to sign a similar agreement with the Jizzakh region, an industrial hub in Uzbekistan. The introduction of digital technologies to study and preserve cultural heritage is part of these future efforts.
“The Novgorod region has expertise in radio electronics, machine tool building, and engine manufacturing, which aligns with local demand here. Our goal now is to identify the specific region with which to establish an in-depth partnership for joint ventures,” Nikitin emphasized.
The Governor also invited Uzbek students to attend the High Technology Championship in Veliky Novgorod. Later, he will participate in the Council of Regions of the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan.
In April, the Novgorod delegation, led by Nikitin, had a successful visit to the 'INNOPROM: Central Asia' Trade Fair in Uzbekistan. All 11 companies that participated returned with new contracts. For instance, 'Novgorod Elektroremont' will now supply electric motors to 'NovAzot', while JC 'RPC 'PSI' has reached an agreement with Uzbekistan's National Agency for Social Protection.
