Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan

May 27, 2024
Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the inaugural meeting of the Council of Regions of the two countries.
“Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, distinguished Council members, ladies and gentlemen,

First and foremost, I warmly welcome the esteemed Vladimir Vladimirovich, all present members of the Russian delegation, and the regional leaders and representatives of Russia here with us today. Welcome to Uzbekistan!

Today, during our productive discussions with Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich, we explored a broad agenda for cooperation and outlined specific steps for our future partnership. Our talks underscored our mutual enthusiasm and commitment to deepening a comprehensive partnership that benefits both our nations and people. In this spirit, we place particular emphasis on strengthening interregional dialogue and enriching it with practical, meaningful initiatives.

Six years ago, Vladimir Vladimirovich and I initiated a cooperative framework between our regions, which has since proven both relevant and highly effective. I am pleased to note that this collaboration promotes long-term partnerships between Uzbekistan and Russia.

Our interaction has been developing especially actively this year. Last week, delegations from all Uzbek regions visited their partner regions in Russia. Previously, in April, the traditional Trade Fair 'INNOPROM: Central Asia' in Tashkent welcomed over two thousand delegates from 65 regions of the Russian Federation. These meetings resulted in agreements for hundreds of new joint projects.

At present, more than 200 joint projects valued at four billion dollars are underway at the regional level, and a new package of agreements worth an additional five billion dollars is now in preparation.”

V. Putin: “Thank you very much.

Dear Mr. Shavkat Mironovich, esteemed colleagues and friends,

The regions indeed play a crucial role in strengthening our comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance, contributing significantly to the development of our multifaceted relations.

The Council meeting here in Tashkent brought together representatives from across our regions: 22 Russian governors and 14 Uzbek akims, along with heads of ministries, agencies, legislators, and leaders from business, academia, and social sectors. Together, these representatives are actively advancing the friendly neighboring relations between Russia and Uzbekistan, particularly in trade and economic areas.

In April, during the fourth International Trade Fair 'INNOPROM: Central Asia,' many Russian Federation regions showcased expositions highlighting joint projects with Uzbekistan. A wide range of collaborative initiatives has emerged from this engagement.

For example, companies from Tatarstan are contributing to modernizing heat supply systems in the Tashkent region and equipping medical universities in Uzbekistan with specialized equipment.”
